To setup the box and control it the Hue Sync app is needed. Even encrypted video signals from copyrighted stuff, like Netflix streams, work with the box. To get it to work on non-computer displays, like a TV with a Playstation, you need the Hue Sync App together with the Philips Play Sync Box (also the core Hue app and some lights as well as the Hue bridge, obviously otherwise there is nothing to "sync") This box does the same as the Desktop app but allows different HDMI inputs and switching between them. It translate the Video signal and audio from the selected audio/video source into "lights" and then just sends commands to the bridge to turn off light X or change light Y to red, etc. The Desktop app is standalone and talks directly to the Hue Bridge in the same network. I explain the difference so you guys don't get confused by it. The App can be found here (Android)/ here (iOS). I call it for this "guide" Hue Sync from now on. There is another one for Android/iOS with the same name. Since this comment got a bit of traction I want to add further information which I posted already somewhere in this thread.įirst of all the Sync App in question (for Windows and Mac) is this here. You can even add your own colors into the Application via clicking the big plus button and selecting your colors form the color wheel by clicking into it. Feel free to try aroudn with the sliders and settings available. If you choose video sync you can also activate the "react to music while syncing video" checkbox, which will brighten up the video colors if a explosion gets louder for example. Now you can select if you want to sync music, video or static colours to the entertainment area. Select your previously made entertainment area. Hue Sync needs to be connected to your hue bridge. Next you download Hue Sync from the Philips website. This one can now be used in other Apps/Softwares. Afterwards you have a configured Entertainment Area ready to go. You can even adjust the height of the lamp (floor level lamp, table level, ceiling, etc) via tapping the lamp icons. Here you can position the lights you want in that Area (up to 10 lights are supported) relative to the monitor. They are are found under the "Settings" page of the app. Philips calls them "entertainment areas". Afterwards you can now start the more advanced setup of the sync areas. In the Apps you need to first setup your normal rooms and do everything you need to do for setting up a Hue Network in the first place. Then you need to setup a entertainment area in the Hue App Android or Hue App iOS. Anything from Hue with colours is compatible (they also have white tone only bulbs) Those can be e27 bulbs, play bars, light strips, etc. UWG Nick, a 21:9 Youtube channel with gameplay videos "Wide as Fcuk", Youtube channel for 21:9 info and game reviews Rule 5: No Box Pictures Related sub-reddits: Rule 4: No referral links, URL shorteners, or selling used monitors.
